RE: gulf coast challange

1st) Who cares if it's 5th wheel specific, it's not like someones head is going to explode for a topic in the wrong forum. 2nd) What do you care if it gets moderated and closed? Just don't click the silly thing if you don't like it so much. Would you like some cheese to go with that whine? The question is valid regardless of our views on if he should be bailing out of town or not. Not one thing wrong with wanting to take the best steps he can to protect his property, insured or not. Wow, another non-informative post but typical and it still belongs in a differrent forum.

RE: Bug removal

Why do you leave the bugs on for two weeks? When you pull in for the evening simply remove the bugs with a bucket of water and sponge or better yet do as advised on this forum and use a product such as bug shield to stop it in the 1st place. I've never heard of "bug shield". What is it and where do you get it? http://www.autogeek.net/dibugbl.html

RE: gulf coast challange

You CANNOT make a trailer hurricane proof! If a house cannot stand up to a hurricane a trailer has no chance. Trying to stay with it can kill you with it. Do your best to tie it down with ground anchors and straps over the roof and LEAVE IT during the storm. One of the worst hazards is flying debris which can penetrate the trailer easier than a regular house as well. LEAVE IT! It is a piece of equipment NOT worth a life! That is why we have insurance. Frank Enough already. Frank, moderate and close this topic. It has nothing to do specifically with 5th wheels. Any RV would be affected.

RE: Inverters .. do you have one? .. are they worth the cost?

Thinking about putting an inverter in my 5er. Your thoughts please. Thanks in advance Carrying an inverter in the TV or installed in the RV is well worth it.

Just out of curriosity, why aren't you heading out of town/state to get away from the hurricane? Best of luck. Be careful! - Eric - That's a little rash don't you think. It's a tropical storm and besides its better to stayed prepared VS the idiots on the Hwys' tring to "escape".

RE: Went and weighed new RV--over weight?

So why are you asking if your over weight? It would only be typical in a like kind comparison. The numbers tell it like it is.

RE: size of fifth wheel

This is a "one ton" truck, so hitch weights in excess of 2200# cause me concern. One ton doesn't mean you have one ton of payload capacity available. My 3/4 ton truck has over 2000 pounds of available payload. Take your truck to the scale, weigh it. Subtract that amount from the GVWR of your truck, and that's your available payload capacity. We have a hitch weight of 3200 lbs, no concerns, it rides great and is well within the TV's rating

RE: GPS or map?

I used to think the same thing until I found out how fast the GPS can re-route you without you having to anything. There's no way I'd ever be able to get the maps out that fast. IMHO: The GPS is the way to go. Let your DH have the GPS, it doesn't mean you have to give up the maps, just don't be too disappointed when he beats you to the punch..... :) We travel extensivily and use only a map, SW is the navigator and preferes the map. Have we been lost...sure but it adds to the experience. We vote map only. sch911, I was not responding to your post but must have hit the wrong quote for the OP

RE: Slide question

Lubricate the slide seals, especially the top seal. We have had the exact same problem you described and lubricating the seals worked.

RE: Which hitch weight?

If your trailer GVWR is 10500 then any hitch rated for this weight will work. Bigger is not neccessary and/or better, i.e.: our trailer is 16K GVWR and we use a 16K hitch. we have pulled tens of thousands of miles with no issue.

RE: 2nd A/C install in unit without wiring/frame prep

I dont intend to install w/o added framing. I can accomplish that if I know how the factory does so....My dealer got in touch with Carriage and is supposed to send me an engineering diagram of the roof framework in units with second A/C's. MBOK...is your 5th wheel a Cameo ?? Thanks everyone ! No it's not but it is a high-end coach and we were still comfortable with the install and the OEM had no issues either.

RE: 2nd A/C install in unit without wiring/frame prep

Like yours mine was ordered with out the 2nd A/C and as I recall was not prep for the a/c. Our dealer had no issue with installing it. The a/c was installed where there currently was a vent. 12k miles later and still no problems.

RE: unhitching problems

You have tension between the TV and trailer, I engage the TV emergency brake, chock trailer wheels, lift trailer to a slight gap between the hitch and pin. If at this point the handle won't release I cycle the TV transmission from park to reverse to park. This will release the tension and the handle will release. Upon release my trailer never moves.

RE: KZ backs it's Warranty

We too are pleased with KZ, we had a few serious problmes and had two seperate repairs done. Once at the factory and on the second repair KZ sent their techs 1500 miles to repair our coach locally. They also extended our warrenty 12 months as a good faith gester.

RE: Adding Air to Fifth Airborne

Just wondering how different owners adjust the air pressure in their Fifth Airborne Kingpin Box. I was thinking of finding a level place and air it up until the line on the shock is where it is suppose to be and then take a air pressure reading to see how many pounds of air it took to do the job correctly. The reading would be taken after unhitching. Then in the future I would just add air until that air pressure number is at the above number before hitchink up. Reason for this is that there is not a level area in the storage lot where I keep my trailer. Do you see any problems with my idea. Don This works fairly well, your right that the unit needs to be level and I have done it like you suggest, however I am in a habit of checking the arrows when stopped and level and sometimes have to let air out or add.
